Ruth Webb
Principal Accompanist
Ruth started to learn the piano at the age of five, and later took up the tenor horn and the violin at secondary school. She also joined the Devon Youth Orchestra. When the time came to leave school in 1999, she could not imagine doing anything other than music. She was awarded a place at the Royal Northern College of Music(RNCM), Manchester to take a degree in music . She graduated in 2003 with a First Class, honours degree, following this with a Postgraduate Diploma, awarded with distinction. She continued her studies for yet another year, as a piano accompaniment scholar, studying with Carole Presland.

While in college, Ruth joined fellow student Kathryn Eves to form the Hollick-Eves Duo giving recitals throughout the UK and farther afield, performing successfully at competitions and festivals. Amongst their many awards, they gained the RNCM’s highest performing qualification, the “Professional Performance diploma” with Distinction. The Duo is “resting”, at present as both girls pursue their own careers.

Ruth has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist working with many organisations and in renowned venues. She is also the principal accompanist to the Bolton Choral Union. Furthermore, she regularly performs solo spots in our concerts.

Ruth is one of those people lucky enough to be able to combine their great love with a career. She is a full-time musician working as a staff pianist at the RNCM and has just started a teaching practice in South Manchester, where she now lives. She also works with a group of friends as a part of a performance group - Your Event musicians and may be contacted direct by email: ruth.webb@haydockmvc.com.

In her spare time (!) she plays euphonium in the Eccles Band but we have it on good authority that she can actually play all brass instruments! Ruth is on the left playing with her sister Rebecca.

In July 2008, Ruth married Les Webb, another brilliant musician, who was featured on our “Let There be Music!” CD playing a soulful trombone solo on one track - “What’ll I Do?”.  Les plays First Trombone with the Fairey (Geneva) Band

Ruth Webb(nee Hollick) joined Haydock Male Voice Choir in February 2006 and continues to make a huge impact on the choir members with her outstanding talents as a pianist. Ruth hails from Plymouth and comes from a musical family in which her father encouraged her and her five brothers and sisters to learn to play musical instruments at a very early age. He had always been involved in the world of music, founding and still conducting the Laira Youth Brass Band. One of the photos in our gallery features the “Hollick Family”
